GoetSorceror - Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 - 7:36 AM
The aim of this project is to test, with an attitude of play/fun, whether we can predict future events that are broadcast by selected news sources on the week beginning Monday, January 17th, 2011.
1) Pick a news website, station, newspaper or channel.
2) Perform a divination, as specific as you can, for the news that will be delivered starting on Monday 17th.
3) Post the name of the station/channel you will be using here, as well as the results of this divination, in this thread, prior to Monday 17th - if you can do a day-by-day breakdown detailing what will happen on each day, all the better!
3) As the week progresses, take note of the news for that week, and see how it matches up with your predictions. You can post your results each day as the news happens, or else leave it til Sunday 23rd.
4) When posting your results, be as objective as possible, detailing possible links/matches as well as predictions that were completely off.
5) On the close of each day, and at the end of Sunday, 23rd, discuss your results with one another.
No. 18104 - GoetSorceror - January 12th, 2011 - 8:20 AM
News Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/scotland/
Monday 17th: Six of Cups (The Chariot, The Universe, 3 of Wands)
"A project settled". A project will come into balance, to the extent that it can now be fully realised. There will have been emotional flux with regards to the project, but it will have resolved, become unified, and will now be able to go forward. Forces are working in harmony towards making this project work. A merge will take place.
Tuesday 18th: Seven of Disks (Lust, Seven of Wands, Prince of Disks)
"Disassembly". News of something failing, potentially a "group of wills" being disrupted by someone with inflamed/impassioned interest in an opposing view to the group. A project incurring loss: practicality being opposed by passion.
Wednesday 19th: The Lovers (Prince of Cups, The Empress, The Sun)
"A perfect marriage". A young man with a strong emotional aspect and a woman with a strong feminine/maternal force will be wed. Bliss, union. Royalty/a power couple.
Thursday 20th: Five of Cups (Two of Wands, The Emperor, The Knight of Wands)
"A clash of dried-up powerful men." In some way the opposite of the reading for Monday. Two figures come into opposition in a battle of wills - one, a strong imperial figure who has gained his throne through tradition or "right", and a contender whose passions are driving him to the top. The result of their quarrel is a poisoning of the roots, resources being spread thin, and a drying-up of an endeavour.
Friday 21st: Knight of Cups (Nine of Swords, Four of Pentacles, Ten of Swords)
"A bastion of appeals to emotion." One person's emotions will build a ruthless ivory tower. A metaphorical fortress will be built whose walls are rhetoric and sophistry. Someone who is considered a hero for ideals will bring fierce dissection.
Saturday 22nd: Two of Disks (Six of Wands, Prince of Swords, Ten of Cups)
"An idea brings balance." A new "idea", some metaphorical construct will bring equilibrium through strong reasoning abilities. A war that has been fought will be won, and both sides will be sated.
Sunday 23rd: Prince of Wands (Princess of Wands, Fortune, Six of Pentacles)
"Chance for youths brings true value." A totality of Will will demonstrate the value of something, completely by chance. Someone's desires will bring about a balancing of the scales, with a strong element of fortune and fate.

'tis indeed, I'm waiting for the very end of the day so that all the news reports are in. I've spotted a couple of articles that, on a quick skim, could have been represented by Monday's reading, but I'll post the analysis for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on Wednesday night, then do Thursday & Friday on Friday, and Saturday & Sunday on Sunday.
Bah humbug. University thrust an essay deadline for next week on me, had to co-ordinate my game design team for the semester, and if all that wasn't enough, my laptop fritzed and gave me a unmountable boot-drive error. I'm missing a few days (Wed, Thu and Fri), but I'm checking the web for cached/archived news reports. Here's my findings so far.

A broad-based coalition has been formed to fight plans by Scottish Power to cut the water level in the River Doon.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-12208176
(COMMENT: Two potential stories that fit the criteria of a project beginning to flow into shape, both being related to water (the suit of Cups' element) - the link is tenuous at best, however. Not very convincing.)

Fuel discounts for remote rural areas 'not in Budget'
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12214986
(COMMENT: Also unconvincing. Disks' element of Earth comes into play (rural Scotland, practical, "down to earth" issue) but no mention of passion.)

"An idea brings balance." A new "idea", some metaphorical construct will bring equilibrium through strong reasoning abilities. A war that has been fought will be won, and both sides will be sated.
John Swinney appeals for budget unity
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-12258634
(COMMENT: Disks' link with wealth is strong here, and the idea of balance/equilibrium ties in well with unity (esp. of opposing forces, as mentioned in the article, with regards to SNP requiring support of opposition). Still largely vague, though.)
Ooooft. My record for Sunday's apparently disappeared, but suffice it to say there was no strong correlation between the reading for the 23rd and the BBC Scotland website. "My sadness to the moon."
Ah well, it was fun to get an experiment going, regardless of the overall results - it felt good just throwing out some "everyday occult" stuff along with the Big Important Magick stuff. Perhaps this experiment might act as fuel for the bonfire of the rational method, providing an example of where Tarot doesn't go right? But then, it does involve interpretation and some pretty heavy isomorphism, so perhaps it's too subjective a practice to actually demonstrate its effectiveness. Or perhaps that's Tarot Apologism!

The reason I didn't jump into this pretty much what you've just said. I was, personally, never able to get a good reading on too broad a subject... I need a connection of sort for the meanings to emerge.
