Alright

That should help you..

Each # car is equal to the number of the tarot card, each suite is equal to the suites as explained in that site... If you want a major arcana you can add a joker, for the fool, otherwise you ignore the major arcana...

Thats about it, as far as I understand it... though i'm still learning.

You can defo use playing cards for divination - there're a lot of theories about whether Tarot developed from playing cards or vice versa, but one way or another, they're related to some extent.

You can use systems other folks have developed, such as the one Lycaon linked to, but it's also possible to make your own system up, provided you're comfortable with making symbol systems that link to one another. The whole idea behind Tarot is that the cards represent multiple isomorphims, which is to say that it can be mapped between more than one symbol system. For example, the cards of the Thoth Tarot can be mapped to the planets, but they can also linked to the Hebrew alphabet, the I Ching, the Tree of Life/Kabbalah and so on. If you're comfy with making your own connections between the cards and other established systems (or not - you can map them directly to life situations), you're good to go. For example, the person in Lyc's link has mapped Wands to Clubs, which in turn are mapped to social situations, Swords to Spades which map to rationale, etc etc.

Cartomancy was a skill I used to use frequently, because I used to play a lot of poker and other card games. I've never bought a tarot deck, and for some reason, never had a reason to. I used to have a notebook around here with my guide to cartomancy around here but I think i've either lost it or misplaced it..

:< You get better results with a 5th Degree Dimension deck.

there's a link to these cards.

It is possible to play with a playing deck of cards. The practice is called "Cartomancy."

The following link is a deck that seems pretty legitimate for the purpose:

Learning how to divine using playing cards is definitely on my list of things to do. Good luck to your friend.
