When someone thinks of extra-terrestrial life, the first images that pop into mind are little green men. Or for someone who has done any research whatsoever on the topic, reptilians, insects, nordics, etc. etc.

But what of spiritual extra terrestrials? What if we find no life because we are looking for something on our plane?

The following is an excerpt from a book, "A Dweller on Two Planets". Jotted down in the 1800s, allegedly the 18 year old author wrote all of this through the technique of automatic writing:

No telescope will ever reveal human life on Venus; not that it is not there, but its forms are of the One Substance effected by a range of force rendering them imperceptible to earthly eyes. You will not think the air any less material, or electricity any less real, because your eyes cannot perceive them. Your eyes are very limited in their visual range; if the One Substance vibrates more or less rapidly than an exceedingly small length of time, producing correspondingly minute force wavelengths, your eyes cannot cognize such vibrations. It is the same with your ears and hearing. If your eyes and ears were not thus limited, you would see every sound and hear every sunbeam. Every rainbow would be vocal, while heat, which now you only feel, would furnish amazing wealth of sound and vision. So it is with the Hesperian people, their persons you could not see, their voices you could not hear, yet they would not be similarly limited in regard to your persons and voices. But so long as you fancy that because you have eyes you can see all that there is to be seen, and that your ears hear all that is worth hearing, so long will you depend on these organs, and gain that sort of false ideas of the Universe which must arise from entire ignorance of all except the tiny bit of creation you occupy. So long, too, will you depend on the telescope to reveal truths about other worlds; you will hunt for evidences of human life on the nearer planets, but you will never find any until you cease to expect that matter will reveal soul; it can not do it, for the finite can not reveal infinity. Turn it about; ask of the soul revealment of itself and of matter also, and all worlds will draw near to you, show their teeming vitality of life, and all nature will uncover such treasures as the hungry soul of science has never found before.

This somewhat converges with my theory on spiritualism in general. I've always figured that there probably isn't a "god" in the sense that all theists believe. What I would be more willing to accept is that there are beings who simply live on higher planes than us who like to dick around with our world every once in a while. If we live in the third dimension and somewhere in the fourth, then it is entirely plausible that there are beings who live the the dimensions above ours. A good (but not really accurate) example of this is to look at ants. For a minute let's assume ants are sentient. To them, we would look like gods, able to wipe out their homes, produce gasses which kill them, magnify heat in only specific places, etc. My theory is that if such a higher being exists, they are not gods, and not to be worshiped, they are merely 9th dimension dwelling children with magnifying glasses.

Deep. I've heard of that before, and I concur with it. Going to veer off for a bit before I get to the point of your thread.

Recently in life, it's become so hard for me to feel emotion; I feel stagnation; confined and limited spiritually.. I get lost in hedonistic sort of things, and it's turned me into a dull, lifeless mass of flesh.. but that paragraph sort of reinvigorated me a bit. I gotta check that book out sometime.

Anyhow, it's definitely a curious thought. What if there are infinite layers coexisting, each with life, but resonating at higher and higher vibrations -- but each layer of life only sees their respective layer? or perhaps, they see their layer and layers beneath them.. Lower layers are oblivious to the higher ones, but not vice-versa. What if, right in front of us on some higher plane, a marvelous city of light thrives? And all sorts of creatures that developed on that plane exist.. Neptune, for example, appears so inhospitable to us, the notion of life existing there seems silly, but on a higher plane, perhaps life transcends beyond such physical hurdles as subzero temperatures and toxic gases, and actually thrives there.

I've read that there are tons of UFOs in the sky at any given moment, but they are not visible to us in our lower vibrational state. A few years ago when I guess I 'awoke', I had my first ever UFO experiences, and I'll never forget them.. and I'll never forget how awesome it felt to 'awaken'. Never felt such intense ecstasy and a spiritual high as I did then.. haven't seen much in the sky either lately.

As far as the theory goes, I give it some credence. Especially after reading several books on string theory. Explained briefly here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B0Kaf7xYMk (I love it when science and spirituality over lap)

The beautiful irony is that this is what keeps our child-gods up at night. How many nights did you spend looking up at the stars and wondering what you are as a kid?

I've been thinking about this thread, and that little excerpt rings more and more true to me.

It's beautiful, but also depressing. If things remain the way they are on this planet, we will search and search.. but find nothing. What if we find a planet teeming with water and warmth -- but it is void of anything sentient? How awkward would that be?

But it's amazing to think that even on Mars, or Mercury, in dimensions that vibrate higher than what we know as reality, plants, buildings, life, thrives. It sounds weird to think that, at a higher frequency, there may be an object or person or thing existing right where you (the observer) are, but as you go lower in frequency, these things might fade out and vanish (to the observer), and a different dimension is revealed.
