Hello there.

This is proabably going to sound insane. I've always considered myself a rational and skeptic person so I know I would never believe this if someone told me. I've always had some interest in the paranormal but I pretty much always stuck with a "wouldn't it be interesting if it were true" mindset.

I have a clear memory of seeing Santa Claus on a certain Chrismas Eve party as a very young child: flying sled, flying reindeer, bells ringing and what not. I couldn't have been more than 8 at the time, so while seeing Santa on Christmas was certainly special it wasn't the kind of stuff that would make you question your sanity. Then, of course, I learned that there was no such thing as Santa Claus, and though my initial reaction was "nuh huh, I totally saw him" I eventually dismissed my memory as a vivid dream that I had somehow confused with reality. I've been living with this belief for the past 13 or so years.

Last year, I went to a christmas party on the exact same location I had seen - or dreamed of seeing - Santa Claus so many years ago. During the party, my brother told me he remembered one night in which I kept calling out to him, yelling "you gotta come and see this! It's Santa Claus, I swear!"

this freaked me out a lot. My brother told me by the time he got there 30 seconds later I told him Santa had gone away already, so naturally he dismissed it as a prank. But it wasn't.

now I'm not naive enough to believe I actually saw Santa Claus. But I do know I saw something that looked exactly like Santa Claus. I suppose it could have been a hallucination caused by a child's vivid imagination, but it looked and sounded incredibly real and I have never had any other experiences like that.

So basically I was wondering what the paranormal explanation would be. I created a thread about this a month ago on 4chan's /x/ and someone suggested it might be a "tulpa", but now I'm asking you guys since there seems to be more genuine interest in the paranormal over here.

Pic is just something random I found on google.

I'd surmise it could possibly be a created memory. You'd be surprised how often we created memories entirely or remember events differently than they actually happened.

Yes, that was what I always assumed. But like I said, my brother remembers me yelling in excitement so I know that at the very least I think I really saw something.

oh well.

You've probably constructed the memory. The mind does things to protect itself; the memory of a flying santa may be its own way of dealing with a development or something that was changing in your life. I've heard a lot about kids having visions when they are 7-8 years old and seeing things that 'aren't there'. Round about this age you start learning about death, the future, and that you will eventually become an adult. So santa flying with a bunch of reindeers sounds stupid, but a lot of people probably have some kind of memory like this, maybe it's the mind trying to make some kind of transition.

Reminds me of my older sister telling me she heard what sounded like hooves on top of the roof of the apartment we lived in (top floor) on Christmas Eve while she was falling asleep ... come to think of it, she was right around 7 years old.

There's a chance you might've seen something in the sky that you mistook for Santa and, with the imagination of a child, put in all the proper things to make whatever it was appear more Santa-like. Who knows, though.
