No. 12788 - Chaos magick fanzines

Frater Quaesito - Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 - 1:47 AM

Hello and good day to all

Does anybody here know where i could find back issues of 80's or 90's chaos magick zines? Gloss paper is ok, but the more obscure, xeroxed and handmade the better... I can't seem to find these on any online boutique, and have no knowledge of where to look in real life.

Also, i would like to interview people who have worked with TOPY and/or the IOT in that same period. I am currently doing research for the writing of a piece of fiction involving the magick underground before the millenium, and desperately need some insider info. I'm fed up with text files, and would like to interact directly with real live people for a change.

Huge thanks to anybody who could help. A link, an email address, a shop, anything counts.
May Eris bless your every step!

No. 12779 - Why did you start?

Hey, /sanc/, looking for a bit of advice here. I know a thing or two about magic, tried my hand at simple chaos sigils once or twice, but I'd like to get more into it. The problem is that I feel like I lack will. I feel there's nothing magic can give me that I cannot obtain through my own *material* means. Of course I know this isn't about "hey I wanna be rich, imma summon a demon that brings wealth and not bother to do stuff in life". It's just that I'm interested in the occult, but not in what the occult can offer me. And I don't really fancy becoming an armchair magician. That's like saying I'm a theoretical programmer.
Anyway, the thing is, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me what made you begin practising magic, and what kinds of magic stood out the most for you. Maybe that way I'll find a way to start my path, who knows.

I don't think there was ever really a beginning for me so much as a natural progression. I'd always been interested and, in a way, had always been doing small acts as a kid. But the first actual thing I set out to LEARN would be the tarot.

Lame as it sounds, I was watching an anime that featured the tarot and I became very interested in it. It was a nice feature, (Vision of Escaflowne) and didn't really do too much to make it seem all powerful, and I wanted to have a go at it so I saved up my money and bought a deck. It was love at first sight, and I was pretty good with that deck. Even when I was just beginning I understood what I was doing, how it worked, and how the readings all seemed to flow together. It's been eleven or more years now since then, and the tarot is still with me. I still love it.

Then it was crystals. I'd always been very interested in rocks, more from a geology standpoint. It was a sort of popular past time in the area I grew up, as my town had a large natural agate pit and a lot of petrified wood. I would also find fossils and stuff like that in a lot of local limestone and shale...

I would agree with the above two posters about the importance of the tarot and learning divination in general. IMO (as worthless as it really is), tarot and Qabalah are the crux of modern occultism and ritual magic. They're one in the same. The tarot is merely a pictoral outline of the Tree of Life diagram. So if you fancy a study in tarot I would encourage you to study the Hermetic Qabalah as well. This system is the foundation for a number of orders that arose some time ago such as the Golden Dawn, O.T.O. and the Aurum Solis. All these orders use the tarot as a part of their initiatory scheme.

My own path began when I started attending Gnostic Mass and getting interested in esoteric religion at about the age of 16. I met a couple there who kind of freaked me out. I pestered the husband with questions about magic and qabalah for a few years and when he finally thought I was ready he and his wife offered me initiation. That was over four years ago and though our order has formally disbanded I still work and study the system under my god parents' proctor-ship. The work involves study of the Qabalah/tarot, astrology, alchemy, ancient egyptian...

greetings /sorc/eres

i have had limited success in some areas of the metaphysical, however one area I have success in is talismans, amulets and enchcantments.

what do the people of /sanc/ know of such things

(pic related, recent gave one of these to a friend)

No. 13359 - Anonymous - June 26th, 2010 - 7:08 AM

Did you try the amulets of the saints ? Even if you are not a believer yourself, they are said to look for anyone and everyone.

Perhaps some seals/pendnats of solomon or of the planets too, etc.

Crystals and gemstones also.

Oh, and runes can be used too. I have also heard of tarot talismans, where you use thesymbolic meanings of the cards as a focus for your magic in order to make a talisman.

Please teach me a spell that effects an object in front of me, alters it, or moves it, or in any way changes it such that I can detect the difference between its state before and after. If this can't be done, please explain why. Thank you.

>view everything as animate and treat everything as having volition and desires.

Absolutely, that's the hook, right there, the rejection of the Purely Mechanical Universe. Yet... it's so... alien, so Other. It's been fiddly enough "pushing" people, the variables bewteen even people I know are so vastly diverse that it's been a one-on-one for the majority of successes. I haven't been present at work for five years Mon-Thu, Fri I "push" my colleagues into seeing me around all the time, though. They are utterly convinced I work a full week at my desk in full view of them. And when we have a new person join the team, I work with them, learn to "think like" them, then "push", and free up my time once more.

Animals, sure, cats are responsive, dogs very much so, "thinking like" a dog is pleasingly straightforward. I can "push" insects out of windows now that I've figured out the different ways they approach the barrier of glass. Didn't work with that huge wasp the other night, but then again, I hadn't seen a wasp that size before.

it can't be done with a "spell" it would fall more into the " Psi and Mental Abilities" category rather than the "Magick" area. http://forums.vsociety.net/index.php?topic=4868.0

Vogel crystals are cut to the exact angle of 51 degrees 51 minutes and 51 seconds or the exact angle of the Great Pyramid of Giza. The crystal is designed after the geometry of the Tree of Life symbol. Its design is said to have come to him in a dream

No. 12746 - Hermes Trismegistus

Anonymous - Friday, March 19th, 2010 - 12:11 PM

tl;dr Was Hermes Trismegistus an actual person from ancient Egypt or just a name a bunch of Greek philosophers attributed their works to?

---

I'm reading two books right now; the first (The Hermes Paradigm, Book 1: First Principles) claims Hermes Trismegistus, the supposed author of all the major hermetic texts (The Corpus Hermeticum, The Emerald Tablet, the Asclepius) was an actual dude, probably an Egyptian priest, and the other (Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition) says all the hermetic texts were written by various Greeks from around 100 - 300 AD who just used his name. Everyone in the renaissance believed HT was a real dude from Egyptian antiquity, even the church fathers of the time like Augustine and Lactantius. I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about the dating of the major hermetic texts and when I should believe are actually from. What is the real story here? The ones I'm being told are all conflicting.

I love you, /sorc/

Hermes Trismegistus is not the same as the God Hermes, though.

No. 13360 - Anonymous - June 26th, 2010 - 7:11 AM

A lot of big figures of that time are a bit vague like that.

It could simply be that he existed and that many authors afterward toke up the name. Perhaps it was first the 'pen name' of someone and it stuck around and different people used it.

No. 12776 - Conversing with the spirits with out altering your conscious

or rather, altering my consciousness for good.
I'd like to be able to work with the spirits with out the use of drugs, fasting, sleep deprivation, or entering shamanic trances, they all just involve to much preparation, and only allow me a small window of time in which to learn

There is one way I know of, it is isolating yourself from all human contact for a year or two, and I hear it has good results, but I lack the time and resources for such an experiment. so I've been brainstorming a few ideas.

I propose that possession could work. I think that if a forsaken spirit (such as a poltergeist or an angry god [An ancient demonic spirit would be best.]) entered my consciousness (heavenly vessel) and my body (earthly vessel) the spirit's awareness of the abstract realm might rub off on me, and my senses would be more capable of picking up abstract beings in day to day life. Those here who have been possessed or attempted to be possessed, please give me your feedback on this.

my other idea is to traumatize myself somehow, which I am very reluctant to actually do. I don't mean a sort of emotional trauma, something like...

That mat looks familar...
Wasn't that the one from that thread where the guy bought the box that ended up having this and a tiny mummy in it?

No. 13340 - Anonymous - June 18th, 2010 - 11:55 PM

Meditation, when you get it, you don't need any preparation at all, just turn on the desired state in your head and you are there. Sadly, depends on the person, but you'll need at least some months to get real results from it, but if you are naturally inclined, maybe you could right now.

So how many of us keep gardens for various magic/healing purposes? What do you grow and what do you use it for? What do you recommend, tips, tricks etc.

I just came back from my favourite local greenhouse with a bunch of things. I had planned to go and get Vervain (and luckily someone I used to work slipped me two plants for free) and ended up also getting Valerian, Alchemilla (or Lady's Mantle), and Tansy.

The Vervain I use for general luck as well as protection, but also for cleansing my spaces. The Valerian I use as the traditional sleep-aid but also plan to use this for dream work, the Alchemilla is maybe for some sex magic but mostly for it's healing properties and it's dew, and the Tansy is to attract any fair folk to my garden, as well as for it's association with the water element and general protection.

No. 13333 - Anonymous - June 14th, 2010 - 4:34 PM

I tend to keep a garden stocked with some more common medicinal plants such as Chamomile, Yarrow, St. John's Wort, though I haven't found a terribly good source for more magical plants. Is there any chance you could tell me what you have in yours?

No. 13334 - Anonymous - June 15th, 2010 - 2:52 AM

Sure! I'll try to remember what I've got, please pardon the repeats from my original post.

Tansy, Alchemilla, lavender, vervain, valerian, wormwood, prairie sage, sweet woodruff... that's probably it for what I use for magic purposes. The rest are just nice herbs or plants, such as solomon's seal, heuchera, hostas and various others.

Hello /sanc/.

I've practiced magik and honing my own ability over the past year or so. These are my accomplishments(read as: what I can do and where I'm at):
I've gotten to wear i can see the aura and soul of a person.
I can numb the nerves of my body as a painkiller of sorts.
I can enhance my own strength and/or stamina momentarily.
I can create psi balls.
I can astral project but not see while doing so.
I've become aware on how to guard and hide my aura.
I meditate often.
I can absorb the energy of those around me (physical, metaphysical, ethereal, etc.)to a small degree.
I've had increased instances of deja vu. Everyday.

I come here with three requests, if those with the knowledge would be so kind.
(1) I'd like recommendation on where to go from here, beyond practicing what I already have.

(2) I want to know how to gain power. It's my prime objective. Whether there be a system of magik or anything else you can recommend, I will eagerly acknowledge your words. It doesn't matter where it lies on anyones moral standards. I mean power...

Oh, don't mind the "k" in magic. It's simply there for when you are writing somewhere where you can confuse "stage magic" and "magic". Otherwise, skip the "k". Or keep it. It really is only a slight variation of the word. Kind of how you can write paedophile or pedophile.

No. 13318 - Anonymous - June 9th, 2010 - 6:56 PM

Ok, i've tried to see auras for quite a while, how exactly does one do it?
I recall i just ended up with negatives or distorted image, while some colours were different from negatives i never managed to get it off living creatures, and same coloured objects always had same "afterimage" so im guessing it was just retina fuckup, even though i managed to get it quite fast, but started to doubt since objects always had same size "aura" around them, no matter how far they were.

Towards op, a question, are you tagging as magic stuff like:

I meditate often.
I can numb the nerves of my body as a painkiller of sorts.
I can enhance my own strength and/or stamina momentarily.

Cause im quite sure those have nothing to do with magics, i was able to do so looong before trying to meddle with magic.
I can also lower and raise body temperature, increase/decrease heart rate and so on, it has more to do with forcing your conscious mind into working with unconscious/automated processes
